It’s a brief experience with very little variety in puzzles or visuals but I found it enjoyable enough to play through and the Abyssal Armor looks pretty sweet, at the very least. If you’ve finished with the main game and deleted it to make space for newer titles then I can’t really recommend you rush back to it for this DLC. If you have the season pass or just need more Darksiders III in your life then Keepers of the Void is probably worth a few hours of your time. I struggle to think of many DLCs that have got it right this long after release. If it’s not offering a great stand alone experience then the early adopters, the people most likely to buy the DLC probably, don’t have a huge reason to play through it or will get little from it if they do. Obviously new weapons and armour are nice to get, along with all the materials you’ll find lying around as you progress through it, but unless you’re just starting the game now then you’ve probably finished everything and upgraded the weapons you already have, meaning the low level weapons you collect aren’t as good stats-wise. It was easy enough to play through in under three hours, but for £10 it may be a tough ask. The final boss was different (but still made of rocks) and a fun and challenging battle. There are five bosses and four of them look the same and have similar, although not exactly the same, attacks. If this was an area in the main game it’d be pretty forgettable except for the overuse of the same puzzle mechanic throughout. Sometimes the orbs you need are missing but in order to get the orb to place it in the slot you have to, you guessed it, move some other blocks.Ĭombined with the samey environment and enemies (they’re new but just made of rocks and pretty unremarkable) it does feel a little undercooked. Activate a block, change its element so you can glide off it/climb up it/roll along it, rinse and repeat. There aren’t any other types of puzzle throughout and once you’ve seen what you have to do the first time you’ll breeze through most of them without much trouble. Using the right combination of elements to work your way through the rooms will allow you to advance to the boss of that ‘wing’ which will grant you a new sub-weapon upon defeat.Īlthough the puzzles are enjoyable enough they are very one note. You aren’t pushing and pulling them around though, you’ll need to activate orbs using the correct element to change the position and nature of the blocks. The puzzles you face throughout the DLC are block puzzles. If like me you have a save file at the end of the game, or at least have all the powers, then you can play through it all in one go. Because of this you’ll need to have at least collected the Flame Hollow in order to start the DLC, leaving and coming back once you need a new power. There are four areas to the DLC, each focusing on one of the powers you collect in the main game – Fire, Storm, Force and Stasis. There isn’t a whole lot more to the story after that until the very end and then it’s very self contained, like a filler episode of your favourite anime. With the DLC installed upon talking to Vulgrim he will tell you that an ancient evil is interfering with the Serpent Holes and that he wants Fury to go to the Void and sort them out. Keepers of the Void introduces a puzzle heavy area of the game, providing new enemies, bosses, four new sub-weapons and the reward of a unique looking armour once completed, but is it worth coming back to after all this time? Just under eight months after the main game came out the second paid DLC has released for Darksiders III (read our original review here). I was at lvl 22, and there was really no reason to continue to play to lvl 30 as far as I could tell.Jin PS4 tagged abyssal armor / darksiders / dlc / filler episode / keepers of the void / puzzles / stone everywhere by Gareth If you do pick up too much and the game starts freezing, you can jump over to the Argul's Tomb DLC and sell stuff to the goat guy without passing a quicksave point.Īlso, the only thing left to do in the game was to beat the Crucible and get all of the fetch-quest stuff in order to max stats and get the Abyssal armor. It was a huge pain in the ass, but by then I had gotten gear that could not be topped by anything that dropped. I agree though I wouldn't say that it would be worth it if you had to pay any more than that.Īs to the 300K savefile limit glitch, I found that by the time you reach the end of the main campaign and the 3rd DLC pack (between "Argul's Tomb", "Abyssal Forge", and "Demon Lord Belial"), due to all of the non-droppable quest stuff that you acquire along the way, you just have to make sure you keep NOTHING extra in your inventory.

Enable Wake-on-LAN in the BIOSīefore you can use the feature, you will first need to enable Wake-on-LAN at the hardware level in your computer's BIOS. There are ways to make this work, but it's a bit outside the scope of this guide, so we'll point you in the right direction as best we can. Second, Wake-on-LAN is designed to wake up another computer on your network, so it won't be able to wake up computers on another network-say, if you're at a coffee shop and want to wake up your desktop back home. Check your computer's documentation or BIOS to see if it supports Wake-on-Wireless-LAN (or Wake-on-WLAN). This means the device sending the magic packet can be on Wi-Fi, but the one receiving it will likely need to be plugged in via Ethernet for this to work. Pretty much any modern Ethernet adapter will support Wake-on-LAN, but wireless adapters rarely do. First, the network card of the computer being woken up needs to support the feature. That WOL magic packet can then turn the computer on, giving you access to the information saved on it.Wake-on-LAN has a few caveats when it comes to support. Once you select the computer you need, the Wake-on-LAN tool will generate a magic packet for a specific MAC address. Then, when your computers are powered off or in power save mode and you need to turn them on, you can use that stored list of computers to identify the one you want to turn on. It does this when your computers are powered on, compiling a list of all the computers on your network and their MAC addresses. Once Wake-on-LAN has been enabled on your computer, your Wake-on-LAN tool can begin scanning your network to collect the MAC addresses of all the computers on your network. Click Save to make sure the settings stay after you exit the BIOS settings screen. From there, you can enable settings related to Power Up in LAN, Network, or PCI card.Click on the Power Settings option and then navigate to Power Up Control. Enter the computer’s BIOS setting screen during the device’s power-on self-test.While the process of enabling Wake-on-LAN varies with each computer manufacturer, it generally follows the same basic steps. Typically, Wake-on-LAN functionality is disabled by default on most computers. It does this by contacting the specific MAC addresses of your devices.īefore a Wake-on-LAN tool can turn on your devices, it first needs to be configured on each of your devices. Wake-on-LAN software works by generating a magic packet that can remotely power on sleeping computers connected to your network. The original story ends on a cliffhanger, with the readers themselves inadvertently helping unleash BEN onto the internet at large through sharing of the files that were given to them, supposedly by Jadusable. The story went viral with viewers praising the story's mysterious and frightening nature, as well as Hall's ability to deftly weave breadcrumbs and other hidden clues to keep readers on the hook and guessing about the multiple theories that surrounded the story. The first arc is told in first-person, as the author comes to the audience (in this case, an online forum) for help figuring out this strange game he bought. Hall used a method of transmedia storytelling through a combination of YouTube videos, written chapters, and audience input to weave a story about a character named BEN – supposedly a malevolent spirit of a dead child – who haunts the author (referred to in the story as Jadusable) in a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. The second arc, The Moon Children, began from September 17 that same year until July 15, 2011, totaling 3,591,600 words and 382 minutes of footage from the arcs. This first arc came to be known as The Haunted Cartridge. īen Drowned was first published as an online serial and web series with chapters released daily between September 7 and September 15, 2010, on 4chan's /x/ board. These videos were retconned as the first installments in the Haunted Majora's Mask Cartridge series in the second arc, The Moon Children, in which characters named Rosa and Alex, each with themes mirroring their respective videos, are introduced. In June 2009, Hall uploaded two videos to his YouTube channel one featuring a conversation with the minor character Rosa from the 2004 action role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines and one featuring the main character Alex Mercer from the 2009 action-adventure game Prototype. The series is one of the most popular web serials on the internet, with a viewership in the millions, and has been widely recognized as both an example of a modern urban legend and a major influence in helping to establish and legitimize creepypasta as a literary genre, creating many of the recognizable tropes that are now seen today in modern internet horror stories. This arc introduced new scenarios detailing the aftermath of an in-universe event in 2018 that caused the collapse of civilized society, as well as continuing stories established in the previous arcs with the intent of tying them together. The third arc, titled Awakening, began in March 2020, following new and returning characters who have become involved in multiple events of the current year. The second arc, titled Moon Children and taking place from late 2010 to early 2011, follows the public emergence of a mysterious cult known as The Moon Children, who worshipped the Moon by way of human sacrifice, or in their words, ascension. It follows college sophomore Jadusable, who, after acquiring a haunted Nintendo 64 video game cartridge of Majora's Mask, is plagued over the course of a single week by the presence of a seemingly omniscient artificial intelligence called BEN. Serving as Hall's first project, the first arc of the series titled Haunted Cartridge was released in 2010. The series concluded on October 31, 2020. Originating as a creepypasta based on the 2000 action-adventure game The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and published by Hall from 2010 to 2020 with a hiatus in-between, the series is known for creating many of the common tropes and themes of creepypasta that are used nowadays and for subverting themes from The Legend of Zelda series. Ben Drowned (originally published as Haunted Majora's Mask Cartridge) is a three-part multimedia alternate reality game (ARG) web serial and web series created by Alexander D. She explores the what-ifs of a lost love with “the 1,” the memories of childhood freedom with “seven” and the loneliness and heartbreak of her public persona with “my tears ricochet,” “mad woman” and “hoax.”īut where Swift really begins to explore the concept of reverie is with her storytelling. The pieces make you want to cozy up by a fire in a small remote cabin.īeyond the lead single, Swift’s following tracks explore concepts that go hand in hand with reverie. For the album promo shoots and “cardigan” music video, she wears simple nightgowns, cable knit sweaters, simple gingham pieces and cozy outerwear. In fact, in recent press videos, Swift has opted to go completely makeup-free. She wears her hair in its natural curls, wrapped up in a low bun, dusting her shoulders, or twisted into a braid. Since the album and its photoshoots were all produced in quarantine, Taylor opted to self-style her album shoot and “cardigan” music video. “folklore” gives Swift a new look we’ve never seen before but that, in my opinion, feels the most true to Taylor and her unwavering passion for songwriting. Traditionally Taylor switches up her look for each album with her early work being characterized by her curly-haired innocent style, the “Red” era corresponding with her bright red lipstick and Oxfords, and the “Reputation” era being synonymous with Swift’s grunge, attempted bad girl image. Swift’s exploration of reverie begins with her album’s aesthetic. It’s reminiscent of Swift’s early work, yet encompasses her recently matured perspective and style, as her tone leans towards folk and alternative music more than her earlier country and pop. She wrote the entire album in quarantine - a period of creative growth and reverie for many - which allowed her to escape the demands and constraints of pop music and create an album focused on storytelling and romantic musing. “folklore” is Swift’s seventh album, released as a surprise on July 24, 2020. “folklore” combines all of these aspects into a single album. It could be a thought, a feeling, a place, a piece of clothing or a poem. Reverie is a difficult concept to pin down. The combined aesthetics, musicality and lyricism of “folklore” epitomize this notion of reverie. The album itself is a beautiful exploration of loneliness, raw emotion and reflection, all birthed from quarantine. The above lyrics from Taylor Swift’s “the lakes,” a bonus track from her newest album “folklore,” embody the state of daydreaming in solitude, the state of reverie. Reverie is the state or experience of being lost in one’s thoughts: daydreaming and fantasizing alone. First Time Opening the Game on Steam Deck After double checking that my “Force Compatibility Mode” was checked and Proton Experimental was checked, it was time to play. I found what the id for AC Origins for my subscription version was, so my launch command line became: uplay://launch/3539/0. I found the list of Ubisoft game ids via a github page. The format of the launch option is: uplay://launch/ /0. Once AC Origins installed, I updated one of my Ubisoft Connect Non-Steam game shortcuts with the AC Origins name and added a run option to open the game via Ubisoft Connect. The main difference is the Steam Deck installation should go into the same z:home\home\deck\Games\Ubisoft Game Launcher\ folder. Once Ubisoft Connect did load, I was able to initiate the download of Assassin’s Creed Origins like I did on my PC already. Setting up Ubisoft Connect Plus Version of AC Origins AC Origin Runs Well On Deck After recent updates, the load time is much faster. It took a few minutes before everything loaded up and my Plus membership was the last thing, of course. I then opened Ubisoft Connect via the Non-Steam game shortcut I created. When I finally reached that milestone, I switched back to Steam Deck game mode (there’s a desktop icon shortcut for that). I ended up creating a 2nd duplicate Non-Steam game shortcut to setup my AC Origins shortcut later. At one point one of the Proton GE options was the only thing that worked for me. The default “Proton Experimental” is working great for me, but there are other options on that menu to try. Getting to Properties Forcing the Compatibility Mode The Properties of that new “Non-Steam game” entry include a “Force Compatibility Mode” that must be checked. Once Ubisoft Connect installed in that Steam Deck game mode directory, I use the Steam option to Add a Non-Steam game to point to the exe: z:home\home\deck\Games\Ubisoft Game Launcher\UbisoftConnect.exe. If Ubisoft Connect does not play nice installing directly in desktop mode, then some people have success adding the installation file as a Non-Steam game like I do below for the Ubisoft Connect EXE file. Installation from there was standard fair, but the “proper” way is to install into the Steam Deck game mode directory: z:home\home\deck\Games\. Finally Installing Ubisoft Connect on Steam Deck Hopefully, the popularity of the Steam Deck changes that, but I overcame that by just downloading from Digital Trends. The website didn’t want me to download the client due since I was on a Linux PC. With familiar PC controls in place, I opened up the Ubisoft Connect website to download the client, but hit a snag. That’s great, but the next issue to overcome is where is the keyboard? Another online search revealed a press of the Steam Button X opens and closes the keyboard. The left touch pad click serves as right click. Once in desktop mode, the right touch pad is a suitable mouse with the click serving as left mouse button. Turns out, holding the power button displays the necessary menu option to open desktop mode. In order to even start that process, I had to search on how to get to desktop mode. Getting Started with Ubisoft Connect on Steam Deckįirst step was downloading the Ubisoft Connect client. There were plenty of those extra steps, but now it’s fairly simple to setup the next game. With that value proposition and the length of Assassin’s Creed games, it’s worth some extra steps to get Ubisoft Connect up and running on my Steam Deck. If it takes less than 6 months to get through the AC Origins content, I’ve already saved money. Even now, the full game is $60 and the season pass is $40. For the $15 per month I pay now, I have access to all Ubisoft games and all DLC. It’s easy enough to buy a game on Steam, but my Ubisoft Connect Plus subscription less expensive in the long run. Controller profiles and graphic settings are also usually sorted out automatically, especially for those in “Verified” status. The verification status of the game is clear with any caveats listed for those not at “Verified” status (like hard to read text or launcher required). With the Steam Deck, it’s easier to buy the game on Steam. Setting up Ubisoft Connect on Steam Deck Ubisoft Connect on Steam Deck I’m happy to report I figured it out and now I’ve fully unlocked the power of my Ubisoft subscription games.
